About Wellington’s Kiwi Holiday Park

Wellington’s Kiwi Holiday Park is a well-established, family-run holiday park nestled in the scenic parklands of the Akatarawa Valley on the banks of the Hutt River in Upper Hutt, New Zealand – in the heart of Middle-earth, just a few steps through the gate beside our office to Harcourt Park, the filming location used for Isengard in The Lord of the Rings films.

Our holiday park is set on 32 hectares of native bush and rural parkland. Enjoy native birdsong – with tūī and kererū living here year-round, often seen in large groups feeding in the trees – and the mesmerising flow of the Hutt River, in an ideal setting for a restful holiday or stopover before heading to or from the South Island.

Here at Wellington’s Kiwi Holiday Park we offer a range of affordable Upper Hutt accommodation for couples, families and groups, including Renovated Motels, Standard Motels, Family Motels, Family Cabins, Standard Cabins and our popular Cabins on Wheels. Or bring your campervan, RV, caravan, bus or tent and stay on our powered and non-powered sites in quiet, peaceful surrounds – with free hot showers and free Wi-Fi – all just 30 minutes from Wellington City.

We have a strong commitment to providing our guests with sustainable facilities, offering an environmentally friendly travel experience.

Take in the fresh farm air and walk amongst the gardens and trees at the neighbouring Harcourt Park, featuring a large well-equipped play area for children, a frisbee golf park and plenty of space for walking and running. You can fish for trout, mountain bike, swim, take a bush walk or visit one of the many exciting attractions located nearby.

Upper Hutt is also home to the Remutaka Cycle Trail, one of New Zealand’s official Great Rides, with trail access points close to our holiday park via the Hutt River Trail and local walking/cycling tracks – many guests start their Remutaka adventure from right here in our area.

Just a short bus ride or five-minute drive from our gate is Brewtown Upper Hutt – Wellington’s only craft beer village – home to multiple craft breweries, bars and eateries, along with family-friendly activities such as go-karting, mini putt, axe throwing, indoor play and escape rooms. Brewtown also hosts regular concerts and events featuring well-known New Zealand and international artists, and is easy to reach via the local bus from the stop right outside our gate.

Harcourt Park was one of the many locations throughout New Zealand to play a major part in the filming of Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings trilogy. The park provided the scenic backdrop for many famous scenes. Ask us here at Wellington’s Kiwi Holiday Park for more Lord of the Rings information – we are always happy to help you find the activity or tour that suits you best.
